Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to invite applications for the in-person PyPSA-Hydrogen Training, designed to introduce participants to the PyPSA (Python for Power System Analysis) framework for energy system modelling and equip them with the skills to implement a hydrogen production model.
We would also like to inform you that INETTT will cover your accommodation and flight expenses, as well as breakfast, lunch, welcome and farewell dinners during the training.
The goal of this training is not only to provide technical knowledge but also to transform this learning into tangible outcomes. We strongly encourage participants to join with the mindset of developing a product. The targeted outcome is, for each of the think tanks, to have created a tool related to green hydrogen, relevant for your region or country. Some examples: Power-to-X Business Opportunity Analyzer (PtX-BOA) or the in-house green H2-model used e.g. EU map of hydrogen production costs (agora-indutry.org), 9 Insights on Hydrogen – Southeast Asia Edition (agora-energiewende.org), 12 Insights on Hydrogen – Brazil Edition (agora-energiewende.org)).
Training Overview:
- Day 1: Introduction to PyPSA components and building a basic PyPSA model (guided training).
- Day 2: Introduction to the green hydrogen production model (half day), followed by the start of a hackathon-style project.
- Days 3 & 4: Continued hackathon work, where participants work on their projects with our ongoing support.
Participant Requirements: To ensure a productive learning environment, participants are expected to have a moderate knowledge of data science with Python. This includes:
- Basic understanding of energy system/energy economics but experience in modelling is not a requirement.
- Comfort with data science packages such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, etc.
- Familiarity with basic Python concepts such as functions and classes.
- A relatively good-performance laptop. Since the models can be memory-heavy, at least 16GB of RAM is expected.
Application Instructions: Applicants should submit the following:
- A CV highlighting relevant experience.
- Briefly describe your Python experience, including your familiarity with data science tools and any relevant projects.
- If you already have a project idea in mind, please include it. Although this is not a requirement.
Team Participation: Given the hackathon-style of the training, we strongly encourage teams of two from the same institute to apply, but this is not mandatory. This collaborative setup will allow participants to work more effectively on their projects and realistically get close to the intended outcome of the training/hackathon – developing a product i.e. a tool/report that can be published. In case of team participation, both participants are expected to have python knowledge.
Application Deadline: 24/09/2025 - Given the tight timeline, we encourage and appreciate early submissions. Dear focal points, and D.R.E.A.M. Team members please don’t hesitate to apply and distribute to words among your colleagues, and let them know about the opportunity, they are also welcomed to apply.
Training Dates: 25 November – 28 November
Location: Casablanca/Morocco
