Dear Colleagues,
I hope you are doing well. We are excited to invite applications for the in-person PyPSA-SPICE Training in Istanbul, Türkiye, taking place from 8–11 September 2026.
The training will introduce participants to PyPSA-SPICE (PyPSA-based Scenario Planning and Integrated Capacity Expansion), an open-source energy system modelling framework used to assess national and regional energy transition scenarios using a least-cost optimisation approach.
Previous applications and publications using PyPSA-SPICE can be found here: https://agoenergy.github.io/pypsa-spice/tutorials-and-examples/publication/
INETTT will cover participants' accommodation and flight expenses, as well as breakfast, lunch, and welcome and farewell dinners during the training.
The goal of this training is not only to provide technical knowledge but also to support participants in developing tangible outputs. We encourage participants to join with the mindset of creating a product relevant to their country or region. Possible outputs include:
- National energy transition scenarios.
- Renewable energy and transmission expansion assessments.
- Energy security analyses.
- Policy reports and modelling tools.
Training Overview
- Day 1: Introduction to PyPSA-SPICE and building a basic model.
- Day 2: Advanced model configuration and project development.
- Days 3 & 4: Hackathon-style work on participant projects with ongoing support from trainers.
Participant Requirements
Participants should have:
- Basic understanding of energy systems, energy economics, or energy policy.
- Moderate knowledge of Python and data science tools (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib).
- Familiarity with basic Python concepts such as functions and classes.
- A laptop with at least 16 GB RAM.
Previous modelling experience is welcome but not required.
Application Instructions
Please submit:
- A CV highlighting relevant experience.
- A short description of your Python experience.
- An optional project idea you would like to develop during the training.
Team Participation
Given the hackathon-style format, we strongly encourage teams of two from the same institute to apply, although this is not mandatory. Team participation increases the likelihood of producing a publishable output such as a model, scenario analysis, dashboard, or policy report.
Application Deadline
30th of June 2026
Given the tight timeline, we encourage early applications.
Dear focal points and D.R.E.A.M. Team members, please do not hesitate to apply and share this opportunity with your colleagues.
